Hammond was sure they'd hit it off. Eventually.
"I'd like to think I've been training for this my whole life."
Jack was pissed when the gender-neutral "Jay" turned out not so neutral. He fought dirty, questioning her credentials right off the bat. As if one of the Air Force's premier minds needed his OK to be on the Project. But Jack always fought dirty.
She fought back.
"...Military doctor, sir."
He wasn't buying it. "Can you fire that gun at an enemy on another world, Captain?"
Short, sassy, to wit: she took no bullshit. "Sir, I can do whatever it takes to keep my people safe."
Thought Hammond, nodding: Welcome to SG-1, Captain.
