I haven't watched the first two seasons in a long time, but I wonder how they hold up in light of all of this. Like most of Moffat's work, it did always strike me as too busy being smug to actually engage with its material. I suspect that the things that fandom liked about the show were not the things that the creators liked about the show (and emphasized more as time went on). But maybe some of the fault could like with the long breaks between seasons, which would muck up anyone's creative flow.
