Home again, home again, jiggety-jig
Dec. 26th, 2003 05:22 pmSo, there I am.
There I am, about 1.5 hours off the train, -ish, after splurging on fast food because I'm hungry and craving...I dunno, salt and fat, maybe, and enjoying being with my cats again, and almost done with some great books by CJ Cherryh, a personal fave.
So, there I am. Having just read my yuletide offering (and loving it), it was angsty and non-cons and I adore that as a rule, and simultaneously having also read the other stories in the fandom I wrote in, about which I shall remain deliberately vague for the nonce although I've mentioned it in the past, *and*
kelliem's warm but not schmoopy Fraser/Kowalski story....
The screen goes blank. Flutters a moment, and then blank again.
The power, it has gone out. On my little hill, where the apartment complex is, is suddenly dim, and quiet. The whole hill is down. So, I go and sit outside in my fluffy sweater, and then call maintenance to open my garage door for me, and drive down here to
cortese's, because, hell, why not? Her power's on and the cat litter could always use some scooping. Best of all possible worlds. 'Sides, I needed to drop off a prezzie (not the crayola project! Just something I found at the drugstore by accident), so I called
cortese at her mom's and she's fine, though netless, and I transmitted her varied coos and other noises to the previously implied cat, who deigned to blink at me in return (which I duly passed on to mother), and we made sure All Relatives Were In Good Condition (all of us being well past warranty in both years and mileage, this is widely regarded as A Good Thing), and that, as they say in the hill country, was that.
So there.
