Bowie last night
Apr. 24th, 2004 07:38 amIt was an excellent show (read
elke_tanzer and
cortese's concert reports), with really evident camaraderie between Bowie and the band, and this just relaxed friendly interaction with the audience, which is something I really like.
All that and a really nice mix of both tunes from across the years, and active v. mellow sounds.
It's always kind of iffy when someone with such a long musical history performs, and I felt Bowie struck a great balance -- there was no "I've not done anything new in 20 years, so I'll just play my Old Top 40", because, of course, he hasn't been resting on his laurels, and no pretentious, "I'm an Artiste and I refuse to play anything more than 5 years old even though you're dying to hear Suffragette City." Very nice balance.
We were in upper nosebleed, and I mean that in the nicest possible vertigo-inducing kind of way. I think, just once, I'd like to be in the friggin' mosh pit someday.
