Frock Coats
Sep. 20th, 2003 04:15 pmDeserve a revival.
I think I want one. (To be precise, I want Paul McGann or Jack Davenport in one, so that I can then take it off. Possibly both. That is not the point of this post, however.)
So I went Googling for frock coat stuff:

I think I want one. (To be precise, I want Paul McGann or Jack Davenport in one, so that I can then take it off. Possibly both. That is not the point of this post, however.)
So I went Googling for frock coat stuff:
eBay: frock coats/patterns search
Patterns:
- StitchinBabes.com -- wow, check out the Merry frock coat reproduction!
- Lola Gentry Originals Very nice coat pattern on main page.
- Sutler Gala Rock Mercantile
- Folkwear -- the ever popular Folkwear folks.
- Virginia Public Store
- Smoke and Fire Co. - Mill Farm Patterns Historical Re-enactor supply.
- J.P. Ryan's Recollections (Frock coat) / J.P. Ryan's Recollections (Gentlemen's Patterns)
- Kannik's Korner -- Historic Patterns, Related Books and Cross Stitch Kit. Note they mention 'Kannik's Kove' coming soon, for pirate/sea-related wear.
- Oriental Saloon and Mercantile. 1880's clothing patterns.
- Harriet's Patterns from medieval to 1945.
- Past Patterns Looks US-centric.
- Buckaroo Bobbins, which, according to some, is an excellent source for 5th/6th Doctor Who frock coat design(s).
- The Costumer's Manifesto Big site with lots of stuff and lots of links. Including one to...
- The Magic Wardrobe, which makes stuff to order.
Coats to purchase:
- Victorian Frock Coat or Victorian Morning Coat, both from Victorian-era clothing. Impressive.
- History in the Making. Wow. If you've got the money...
- Or, go goth: Capes and Frock Coats from Leatherworks.com. They have pirate/poet shirts, too. I love those things.
- The Magic Wardrobe
- Ruby Lane Various weirdness. I see a lot of stuff here I want, thought not frock coats as such (except for one very oddly appealling one). The prices are great, and this Ruby Lane thing is a collection of stores, so probably worth browsing through intermittently.
- Tuxedo Wholesaler Apparently, much more than tuxedos. Be sure to check the bargain section -- there's a 'Kentucky Ashley' frock coat there right now. TW has a PDF catalog that's too big for me to download on dial-up, but this site does look darn interesting. (I'm downloading the frock coat section of the catalog right now.)
