There is so much excitement going on in my real life right now, I'm posting rather infrequently (excitement in a good way, not a big-rig truck full of ferrets overturned on the freeway kind of way, or even a dark twisty maze filled with passages, all alike, kind of way, just, you know, busy), but when I read from [livejournal.com profile] pameladean that Kate Worley had died, I said to myself (I do that a lot), "self, you know where your issues 1-10 of 'Omaha' are because you were just sorting through fannish stuff to keep, and fannish stuff that should move on to a new home", so over the subsequent 3 days, instead of reading the other 4 books I might be reading before going to bed, I read issues 1 through 10 of 'Omaha, the Cat Dancer', and enjoyed it greatly.

And then I thought two things:

1. when someone makes art that survives them, that's true immortality (not an original thought on my part, I'm sure)
2. the best way to remember someone who has made art, is to go experience it.

And I'm glad, in this case, that I could do that, and I hope that I make art that someday survives me, too.
