Happy New Year!

Home safe and sound from my holiday gallivanting. RL turned out to be more...unexpected than originally expected. But, here I am, reading my backlog of friends list.

Glad some folks like the Newman photo in my previous post. Yum yum!

(...later)

Um. I feel kind of, let down, I guess. Bitter, maybe? I'm not sure what the word is. (Hell, maybe ennui.) It could just be low blood sugar. I had a poverty-induced inability to eat until getting home day, today. Fortunately, I ate a very large breakfast. I'm dining now.

Re: unexpected surprises v. expected ones. An expected surprise would be, oh, a Christmas present I really liked. Which I was pleasantly surprised to receive this year. Whoa. The mind. Boggles. The unpleasant surprise(s) were just that: exceedingly unpleasant, but RL, not LJ, so, not generally a subject of discussion here.

But, reading christmas/yule/etc., posts from people who were posting in realtime at the time, after a week away, so now these voices (joyeous, stressed, pleased, etc.) are in the past, is really kind of...bizarre and somewhat depressing. Kind of. And yet, I am drawn to read.

There's something about the holiday season that is so ephemeral, in a way that another week's worth of journal posts would not be. Very strange.

I've been looking for the word for a couple days now. When I find it, I'll let you know ...

"Well, fuck", might just be the closest term in English. Only, less angry, in more of a resigned kind of way. Hard to tell.
