What I did for Christmas
Dec. 22nd, 2006 02:27 pmBought eggs for a woman whose WIC checklist didn't include them. ("No eggs," said the cashier, looking at some piece of paper the woman handed him to pay, however all that works. "Peanut butter, [something, something, something]. No eggs." "Hold it." I said, thinking of a blog entry by someone I can't remember, talking about how hard it was to feed her kids on WIC, and how she'd go through the checkout line twice, once for the kids, and then once on whatever change was left over, for herself. Left over change, I thought, and opened my mouth: "I will pay for those eggs.")
If I had had more money myself, I'd have bought her the whole goddamn store.
