Doctor Who: The Movie

I watched versaphile's copy of DW: The Movie today, and I must say re: Paul McGann as The Eighth Doctor, "yum, yum". And you can quote me on that.

I see the appeal. *Mullmullmull*. It would be nice to review some other 8th material, perhaps one or more of the books, to get a feel for the treatment of this particular incarnation. Anyways.

Terribly Cute DS9 episode re-run

"Trials and Tribble-ations" was on this evening, so I surfed in and watched it.

The premise is that the DS9 crew on the Defiant (coming back from Cardassian space with the Bajoran Orb of Time) accidentally ('cause of a saboteur using the Orb) get thrown back and basically INTO the original series ep, "The Trouble With Tribbles".

The thing that's so fun about this DS9 ep (aside from the 'vintage' costuming) is that this episode is basically fanfic that adheres very closely to the TOS episode's canon. All the passing shots of the main TOS characters, their interactions, the subtle interweaving of this new story in and out of the structure of the old one, it's just a treat to see, especially if you tend to do/read a lot of ficcing in missing scenes and whatnot.

An utter treat.

Interesting note: looking at Dax (Terry Farrell) in a TOS uniform, and all the old footage of other women, the change in what TV considered beautiful for a woman then and now is really obvious.
