The Count of Monte Cristo
May. 29th, 2005 11:34 amI'm reading the book and watched the Richard Chamberlain version last night. *swoon*
I saw the version from a few years ago with Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel, and lo, it was shiny and pretty. Plus, Richard Harris! But the Richard Chamberlain version is a tighter adaptation, unless there's a lot of stuff I really don't remember from the 2002 film. There was that bit where...no, the '02 version was much more Hollywood and not an adaptation at all. (Though they did have *that* bit about how the Count and Albert meet.)
Now, Louis Jourdan was in The Man in the Iron Mask with Chamberlain and played de Villefort in the Cristo I watched last night...but he's also played Edmund Dantes/Cristo in the 1961 version of the film, which I thought was kind of cool.
Oh, look at all those different versions listed at IMdb! Heavens! And one with an actual Frenchman in the lead role! (Gerard Depardieu, natch.) I may have to start collecting.
