Cosmopolitan

applecameronCosmopolitan: a member of the martini family.
(Classic martini: gin, vermouth, olive. The vermouth and olive both behave as garnishes, the vermouth is not in equal proportion to the gin. There's also dry v. sweet vermouth. Equally classic martini's are made with vodka instead of gin. I've had both -- with Grey Goose vodka, which is the good stuff, and in general prefer gin. But I like gin. Maybe I'll be British in my next life.)
Cosmopolitan: Vodka. Cointreau, splash of cranberry juice, lemon peel.
I go back and forth on vodka, sometimes it's the last thing I want (you can tell one of my first major drunks in college was on vodka, can't you?), and sometimes it's the first.
Anyway, I decided I wanted something I hadn't tried before, so I ordered a Cosmopolitan. It was good. In retrospect I think I would have preferred something without vodka, like a Manhattan (bourbon, vermouth/bitters/sherry, cherry garnish).
Favorite drinks, anyone?
I like my scotch on the rocks, but if you've read Scotch (slash, SG-1, J/D) you might have guessed that already.
And I like gin and tonics, and I like gin martinis.
For hard alcohol, some kind of scotch/whiskey/bourbon, on the rocks, and gin and tonic pretty much run neck and neck.
